The Centralia History Project - Centralia, Washington, was founded in 1875 by George Washington, the son of a black slave, and a jack-of-all-trades who journeyed to the Pacific Northwest to create a new life...
That is how traditional history begins. But we want to do something quite different through this web site. This is not a complete history of Centralia - it is a doorway to stories about the people who lived here, told by their families, friends and neighbors. It is doorway to innovative ways of telling not a complete history, but unique parts that - taken as a whole - help define just what the community has become, and who lives here.
This site will feature works from the community - from schools, clubs and community associations. It will also feature works from private individuals who have a love for history. And above all, it will feature ideas, events and images from the rich and varied past that makes up the city we call Centralia. So stay tuned... some fun things are coming!
